THE SCOUTING FOR FOOD - FOOD DRIVE

One out of every nine individuals in South Dakota is food insecure

We are asking for Scout units, church groups, school groups, businesses, and other organizations to help us carry on this tradition of SERVICE and plan on participating in this year’s Scouting for Food - Food Drive.

The Feeding South Dakota Food Bank estimates that 1 of every 6 children is food insecure. Unfortunately, this need is growing every day. Through your group’s involvement in this Food Drive, you’ll have the opportunity to HELP alleviate this need.

This year’s Door-to-Door food drive will occur Saturday, November 5, 2022 for bag delivery and Saturday, November 12, 2022, for bag pick up.

We KNOW that your calendar is full, but this is such a worthy cause and we THANK YOU for being a part of it - and to enable the leaders and members of your group to be a part of it.

Each colored area on the map below is an area that a group can signup to cover. Groups will be responsible for dropping off bags at all houses within their area on November 4, 2023 & picking up all bags on November 11, 2023. When reserving an area, please let us know what area you are reserving. Each area has a number assigned to it. You can view the area number by clicking on the area below, on the map. Unit Instuctions

The bags will be available to be picked the week of October 30th - November 3rd, 2023 Please plan to deliver the bags on or around Saturday, November 4th, 2023. DO NOT PLACE THE BAGS IN OR ON MAILBOXES. Please instruct your Scouts to TIE the bags, if possible, to a door, railing near the door, or door knob. That way the bags won’t get blown away if it’s windy out. Please plan to pick up the filled bags starting at 9am, Saturday, November 11th. The suggestion is making a minimum of two trips through your delivery area. Many times households forget to put the bags out in time, but once they see us in their neighborhood they get them set outside. For units in Rapid City, once you have collected all the bags in your area bring them to the designated collection area. The SD Nat’l Guard will be at the site collecting the food. Thank you all for your volunteer efforts for this very worthy cause!
